What else borders the court, if it is not all surrounded by the forest?

We shall see

"They'd have to get through the forest first" Does that mean that the Wood surrounds the Court? Or that they are both surrounded by a regular forest?

Nah

Is the Court completely surrounded by the forest?

Nope

Does Gunnerkrigg Court exist in the normal space? That is to say, could someone accidentally stumble on the Court or the Woods just by taking a hiking trip through the less travelled areas of the UK?

They'd have to get throughthe forest first

Is it possible for the Court and Forest to go to war with each other, should the problems between them escalate too high?

This situation has not happened.

A question, rather than a comment: how much contact does the Court have with the outside world? And how much does the outside world know about the Court (or the Forest)?

The Court contacts the outside world as much as is needed. communication in the other direction, however, is severely limited. Not many people know about the place

What would you say is the main reason the Court would accept Zimmy but the forest would not? One of the two under/overestimating the threat she represents? The forest existing more in the ether in general?

Renard's reaction to Zimmy is pretty typical of the forest dwellers

Did Sir Young and the others in on Jeanne's death truly believe the forest to be a threat to the court?

They did, yes

What do the Anwyn count as, fairies or animals? If they count as neither, if an Anwyn were to become human, would he or she be male, female, or something else?

It is handled on a case by case basis, for creatures who are not becoming students in the Court. not everything that changes has to go to the forest or the school.

could it be possible to exist in perpetuity by entering the forest in old age, then returning to the Court in a new, youthful body, returning again once that body begins to die, etc. ? or does "the test" not work like that?

I guess it would work that way, but nobody has ever tried that. Also it might be frowned upon

So does the Court get to choose what gender the forest folk become when they pass the test?

Nope. The equation is simple anyway; fairies = girls, animals = boys

If a resident of the forest was able to assume the form of a human by some means other than the test (without body snatching or doing anything morally reprehensible like that), would the court let them join Foley house? Or is the test required?

It would depend on a review of the individual's circumstances

Is Red in Annie's year or did she join the court in year 7? Does the year structure even apply to foley, what with the students being largely former forest-folk and all?

Red is in the same year as Annie, yeah. She joined the school a little late.

seems like the Court is working towards being able to create human life (Kat trying to make Robot a human/android body) and the Forest trying to make human life (Coyote's scheming with Shadow). is that a deliberate plot thing or coincidence?

That's not really their goal, no.

Is one of the points of robot loving his good friend shadow that it is symbolic of the fact that the court and the forest can get along if they would only try?

I'm fine for you to interprate it that way

I hope this isn't considered a spoiler question. But do you already know how Gunnerkrigg Court is going to end in your head already? And do you plan on doing stories beyond the forest and walls of the school in the outside world?

Yes, I know how the story will end. There are loads of other stories I want to do in and out of the Court, and within the same universe. I hope to one day be able to do a compilation of short stories that don't fit into the main plot.

Im not sure this is a plot spoiler or not. But you've created a very interesting world within the school of Gunnerkrigg. Im curious as to whether you will expand on the world beyond the court and forest later, and if we will ever see it in other stories?

I'm limited as to what I can spend time showing in the comic if it doesn't pertain to the main plot, but there are lots of little side stories I'd like to do with other characters. some set in Gunnerkrigg and some not.

When Annie looked at the forest etherically, you can clearly see that there is a golden pattern-thingie coursing through the whole place. Is this to add to the duality between the court and the forest (i.e, order vs. chaos isn't as clear cut as we think)?

It's mainly to show that life and/or power flows through the forest in a way that people can't see, unless they can see the world as Annie can, through her blinker stone.

(if this has been asked before, sorry.) Would you consider making a Forest symbol shirt to go with the Court symbol one?

I'm not sure. The symbol hasn't been used a whole lo tin the comic. It doesn't seem a very substantial design. Maybe a very limited run couldn't hurt?

Re: Coyote looking into A's dream: why a skull? C wanted to startle A; hint at aspect of C not seen before; other? On one hand C seems to embody life—also Forest (#486) vs Court—, on other skull often symbolizes death. Or signif. to be seen later?

It was just Coyote untactfully barging into Annie's dream. Please do not be upset by it, or go out of your way to find hidden meaning in there. There will not be a "That's why I was a skull in your dream!" scene later in the comic.

Do you have any plans for new shirts? I'd love to see one with the Forest Symbol and possibly one with both in some form or another. I love the way the Court Symbol appears on the shirt you currently sell on Topatoco.

I would like to do new products, such as shirts and things. I'm not sure of what to do yet though. I still think it might be a little cheeky of me to offer the Court symbol shirt in navy/red, depsite people asking for it.

Are the Annan Waters in the comic (between the Court and the Forest) the same as the real life river Annan? If not, was the name itself an inspiration?

It's just got the same name. It's not a real river that exists in our world.

Is the court the only human settlement close to Gillitie wood? If so, then where did Alistair and his parents live before they took the test, and how did they learn of gillitie wood and the test?

They didn't live near the Court or the forest, but they heard about the test through various channels.

She would not be allowed by the Court or her parents

Did Coyote divide the court and the forest just because he thought it would be funny to cause that much animosity?

If you had to choose, would you be on court's or forest's side? In other words, technology or magic?

The Court, I suspect.

The Court, I suspect.

Previously I asked about positions at Gunnerkrigg and got a "Remains to be seen" so I'm sorry if this is prying: Has the court evolved into a military position against the forest?

How do former forest dwellers support themselves at the Court? Do they get jobs, or as students do they get a full ride scholarship?

Students have everything provided for them, and later they can work for the court, like everyone else.

How about a Forest Symbol shirt? The Court Symbol shirt would indeed be better in red on navy, but that green colour scheme would be great for the Forest Symbol.

Not sure if I want to do the forest symbol on a shirt, really.

Was the Court not curious about how Robot wound up in the forest? Or did they think he had been there since the big split?

He would never allow himself the luxury.

The Court.

You use the Annan River as the divide between court and forest. I'm unable to find reference to any myths that use it as a barrier like that- is it your own invention?

It's based on a Kate Rusby song called The Annan Waters.

You answered 'Most of the Court don't pay too much mind to the forest.' Is this a miscalculation on their part?

That remains to be seen.

Gunnerkrigg seems fairly established (and sprawling) since the Diego story arc. Is the Forest still even considered a threat? Or just something to study (and guard against)? The current dean seemed pretty bored with their ambassadors.

Most of the Court don't pay too much mind to the forest.

I was never clear about this - are there places in the GC world that are neither in the Court or the Forest? Also, why is music a touchy subject?

There is the rest of the world that is outside of the Court and the forest.
