Is Kat's head pigeon a defense mechanism by Zimmy to make the robot angel aspect of Kat less terrifying? Mocking that which terrifies you is one coping mechanism. And when Zimmy is tired from mucking about in Annie's brain, perhaps that dense slips?

No, Zimmy doesn't get to choose, and she has never seen the pigeon that Kat and Paz looked after.

What animal does Paz enjoy "talking" to the most?

She likes dogs a lot, but also lizards, becuase it's a treat to talk to one without it running away first.

Which characters, if any, would you like to incorporate in a future comic?

A bunch, namely ones like Paz, Zimmy/Gamma, some of the fairies/ex-animals, the parents when they were younger, Jones, Jan and Cookie Monster, and any others that I feel would make interesting stories.

Have Kat and Paz spoken since Faraway Morning? I have to imagine that'd be a bit awkward...

No, they've not really spoken since then

Which character's dialogue is the most fun to write?

I like them all, really. I guess I might be especially fond of Paz, though.

Seems like Paz's comment about Kat possibly liking girls a few chapters back really bothered Kat. Is that ever going to come back up?

Sure

Does Paz have anyone to speak Spanish with at the Court? If I were her, I'd miss speaking it and discussing the pop culture and stuff.

Yeah there are other Spanish speakers, but she doesn't mind just talking English. She's as in tune with pop-culture as the other kids are

Do Paz and Lindsey get along well?

Yeah, Paz was fascinated when she first met her. They spent some time talking.

Oh, poor Kat... Is this something everyone's been teasing her about lately?

Not really, but she's been thinking about why Paz would say something like that.

So Kat is pretty definitely gifted when it comes to technology. Is her aptitude purely because she's a science prodigy, or is there a supernatural/etheric element to it (like Paz's ability to talk to animals)? (and sorry if this is a spoiler!)

We shall have to see

What is that picture of young Paz I keep hearing about? I can't recall it appearing in the comics.

It's this one http://gunnerkrigg.tumblr.com/post/10818094620/here-is-paz-when-she-was-younger-before-she-went

(You know what I meant, Siddell!), did Kat look at Paz for a reason pertaining specifically to Paz, or was Kat surveying the scene of the other sleeping students? Is there a significance that it was Paz we (the viewers) were shown up close?

You're supposed to think about that for yourself and come to your own conclusions.

Why did Kat look at Paz in the most recent strip?

Because it is a story, and sometimes characters in stories do things. The comic is a way to convey actions and dialogue through pictures and text that pertain directly to the events in the story.

¿Hablas gallego tambien? (Acabo de ver su dibujo de Paz chiquita)

Only a little. And I learned it all from listening to my grandma and watching Xabarin Club

That picture of young Paz makes me super curious about her backstory. Should I wait and hope it comes up in the comic, or would it be cool to ask what I'm wondering?

I want to do a short story comic with Paz, but first I would have to have the time to do it. It's all planned out and everything. Otherwise, her childhood (before she went to the Court) is pretty normal for a young girl in Galicia who can talk to animals.

Tom, your drawing of younger Paz is so adorable! I'm having a heart attack at how cute she is.

cools

I really like your drawing of Paz as a kid! How did she end up in the Court, though, if she grew up in Galicia? Did her family move?

That would be covered in a spin-off mini comic I would like to do about her.

We've seen at the Court that there are students from other countries, such as Paz. Since it's often more difficult to discern a character's accent in the written word, are there any students (or people) at the Court who are American?

Aside from Coyote (who is not a student at the Court), no.

I read on the forums that you once said there's multiple LGBT characters in the comic... is this going to be touched upon soon in the story? The conversation between Paz and Kat seemed like the start of something bigger.

Sure, but the comic is not about LGBT issues. That's what Tumblr is for.

With regard to my previous question (alchemical symbols) I was asking if there were alchemical symbols for minor characters (Paz, William, Parley, etc.) that you had in mind, but hadn't been connected to the characters in-comic yet. (If that makes sense).

Nah, not really. That kind of stuff is reserved for main characters and theming

Why isn't Paz training to be a medium with Annie, Parley and Andrew?

She wasn't asked

How does the Court (or rather, the administrators) decide how much clothes/items to give each of their students? Do they all have a set amount of money they can "spend", do they earn it through effort in class or helping like Paz does, or how?

Yeah there's probably some kind of gains/returns system in place

Is Paz's character design based on any Spanish family members of yours?

no

In Paz's work with the animals, is there an adult that she works closely with? Does she have a mentor-type figure?

yes

How much time has passed between the page Kat leaves Paz and the current page?

about an hour

What's Paz's stance on clowns?

Same as everyone: she doesn't like them

Does Paz have many (human) friends or does she mostly keep to herself and her work?

yes she has human friends

This is sort of an oddly specific question and I don't know if it makes any sense but does Paz's hair blend from long to short in the back or is it layered so it's just long/short and the long part covers the start of the short part?

It's layered

If I recall correctly, Paz is Spanish for peace. Is there any significance to this name or did you just pick it because you liked it? Also, what is Paz' surname?

Her name is Paz Cadena Blanco

Did Paz get over Mort's clowning around?

sure

I just noticed that what Paz says actually has proper Spanish punctuation, but only when she uses full Spanish sentences. Just wanted to say, nice touch.

Thanks

Does Paz need to make any sounds to communicate with animals? If so, what are they like?

Depends on the animal

How did Paz, a young student, get involved with Court experiments like that? Why does she have any authority at all?

She has no authority.

So then, can *Paz* communicate with anything sentient?

No

It happened since Residential, but I just noticed Paz's speech bubble lost its color. I'm pretty sure it's happened to other supporting characters, too. Did you do that for a reason other than it being easier to leave them white?

No

Can Paz talk to all animals?

Yes

Can Paz talk to the bird even though it's a baby? Can Paz also talk to human babies who haven't fully developed language yet? Are birds born knowing bird language?

yes yes no

Before, you had said that Paz's ability to talk to animals was completely irrelevant to the story. Does this mean that the story has changed since then?

It's still as relevant as it's ever been

Why hasn't Paz been scouted as a medium?

Cos

How long have Paz and Bobby known each other?

A while

I'm very impressed with how you drew Paz! She's super cute!

Thank you

I'm happy to see Paz will she play a bigger role in this chapter?

Yes

What's Paz's favorite movie?

The Little Mermaid

What was Paz doing right before Kat dropped in?

Drying her hands on a towel.

Would Annie invite Paz on a trip to the woods (if Coyote extended his guarantee of safety) now that Annie knows Paz can talk to animals?

If she needed someone who could do that perhaps

Wouldn't Paz be a candidate to be a medium? It seems like talking to animals would make her a good go-between between the forest and the court.

Maybe, but she isn't.

Is the brown-haired girl who asks Annie what the note says in comic 694 Paz, or someone else? Does she have a name?

It's not Paz. She doesn't have a name.

Is Paz a vegetarian? How did she discover she could talk with animals?

No she's not. She discovered it when she could hear them talking

Hold on, you said that the fish Ysengrin ate wasn’t sentient. But if Paz can talk to animals, wouldn’t that makes ALL creatures sentient, other than bugs?

Nope.

http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=604 Was Paz so excited to see a cow because she wanted to talk to one? Is she trying to hide that she can talk to animals?

Yes.

Can Paz talk to ants and spiders? Does she?

Nope.

Is Paz sad that there is really no animal she can talk to in the court? (Or at least none that ive seen)

She has plenty of animals to talk to.

When Paz talks to animals, does she make animal noises, or do they just understand Spanish? Or is it via telepathy?

A combination of all three.

Was it just a coincidence that Jack mentions someone who can talk to animals in their grade not too long after it was brought up here that Paz can do just that? I got so excited but then realized that you had that comic finished for months.

Yup, it was coincidence. Well, kind of. Someone asked if the kids had any other abilities and since I knew it was going to be in the comic soon, I mentioned about Paz.

Is Paz short for anything?

Nope.

What houses are Paz and Tea in? Is the court aware of Tea's power (her ability to see and speak to our own universe)?

Paz is in Queslett.

Why hasn't Paz been considered for medium training?

Because she hasn't?

Thank you for that lovely image I now have of Paz talking to animals. It has cheered me up immensely.

Okay.

Would Coyote understand if Paz spoke to him in Spanish?

Of course.

Does Paz's ability to talk to animals extend to the ability to comprehend them and vice versa?

Yup.

Can you tell us an interesting fact about one of your characters that isn't particularly relevent to the story?

Paz can talk to animals.

Will we see Paz again?

I hope so.

Paz a de estar hasta la hostia de ser engañada. No puedes por lo menos darle una granja de hormigas o un paseo en la espalda de Reynardine?

She isn't the focus of the story.

What country is Paz from?

Spain.

Is it a nice nice idea for Paz or a nice scaring idea for Paz?

Just a nice story about her and where she comes from.

Other that Zimmy and Gamma, which I believe you've mentioned in the past as a possibility, are there any other characters' stories (including characters not yet revealed) that you think would make good subjects for their own comic or project?

I'd really love to do a short story on Paz. I have a nice idea in mind for her.

I'm an American reader, so I tend to picture all the characters speaking like Americans. It's kind of jarring to realize they actually speak with British accents. Are there any characters, other than Anja and Gamma, who don't speak in a British accent?

Paz is Spanish. Coyote speaks with a strange accent too, and Ysengrin just sounds angry. Jones doesn't have an accent, Donny sounds Scottish (so does Kat, but not so much). There are quite a few accents.
