182 matches for real.
Are there any other facilities in the world like the Court? (in the comic world, not the real world)
Not like Gunnerkrigg, but there are other places where stuff happens, yeah.
What do the robots sound like? Do they have tinny squawky 70's robot voices (DANGER WILL ROBINSON), or do they sound like Microsoft Sam, or like a real person?
They sound like robots
Does Zimmy see other 'inner thought' kind of things on other people? Or was it just some sort of special situation? I feel kind of dense for not realizing that it wasn't a 'real' talking pigeon on Kat's head until I reread the chapter.
She sees different things for different people
Are unicorns real in the comic?
Yes
Are unicorns real?
No
Man, the kids in your comic have all these amazing skills, they make me feel inadaquate.
We are but real humans.
In the comic 1053, is it Annie's hand on Kat's head in panels 2 and 3, or someone else's? I don't really see this as a real mystery, but apparently it's caused a baffling amount of speculation on the forum.
It's Annie's hand.
If faeries use insults in lieu of names, what do they do when they actually want to insult each other for real?
They know when they are being genuinely insulting or not. It's part of their culture
Have you ever thought of banding together with other comic writers you know to release a group publishing funding project through kickstarter or indiegogo (á la B9 Kingdom) ?
Also which (if any) other webcomic writers have you met in real-life?
Nope.
Would Kat's head-pigeon be allowed to take the test and become a real boy? Would the actual City-Face?
the pigeon on Kat's head is not a real pigeon
Do Robot and Shadow have real names? Like, what do the other robots call Robot, and what do the other shadow-people call Shadow?
Shadow doesn't have a name other than Shadow, and Robot's real name is S13
Wait, so can City Face read Kat's mind? Or has he died and become a spirit pigeon?
That's just a thing Zimmy is seeing. It's not a real pigeon.
After rereading chapter 26 and what Coyote tells Annie about the "real" Ysengrin, it occurs to me that perhaps Coyote appreciates him more than we think. Comment?
I agree that this is a comment
Do the higher-ups of the Court recognize the fact that Jones has no real dedication to the Court and remains relatively neutral?
We shall see.
How did you come up with that particular artistic representation of yourself?
i needed something better than real life
Could Annie control real fire? Eg, if she lit something on fire via a match or some other conventional means, could she control the path of the flame/what it does?
Nope, normal fire is just normal fire to her. She has no control over it.
If the spiders in Zimmy's head love her so much, why do they want to escape?
So they can do stuff in the real world.
I am in love with Brinnie's outfit on the latest page! (1015) Did you use real clothes items for reference? And if you did, can you link to them so I can buy them immediately?
It's a sleeveless turtleneck top, sarong skirt and strappy boots. I wanted it to seem like the kind of clothes a confident, tough girl would wear, with a hint of the fact that she comes from a different era (being a valkyrie and all)
Is sub vocal communication something that exists in real life?
With the right equipment, yes.
I only discovered your comic 2 days ago but I have already read every one. Real shame that they ran out so fast. Keep up the great work!
Thanks! I'm glad you like it
The programming language that the robots use is beautiful. Did you draw any larger samples, or is what we see in the comic the full extent of it? Does it have any real-world inspiration?
There were a few areas I took inspiration from, but the problem with the language itself is that it's really hard to draw on paper, and I'm still looking for a way to represent it properly.
Does Blue have/need a real name?
Nope, Blue does not have a name.
So, if former fairies keep their pointy ears when they go out into the world, and if, I assume, this trait is carried to some degree or other onto their children, are pointy ears a not-unheard-of trait of Gunnerkrigg-Universe Earth?
You'd see as many pointy ears out on the street in the comic's universe as you would in your actual real life.
If the court staff knows that a god like Coyote is real, how could they be atheists/agnostics?
Because they believe that a powerful creature does not a god make.
If Annie touched real fire would it hurt her?
Of course. That stuff's hot!
Forgive me if this is already common knowledge, but is Gillitie Forest an actual location in the real world? If not, is it based on a specific forest? And how did you arrive at the name?
No I made it up. It was a name I made up for a series of short stories I wanted to do a long time ago. They were going to be told by a girl living in a tree in a forest called Gillitie Forest, but I scrapped the idea and used the name here.
I've noticed some parallels with your universe and the Gaiman fantasy universe (All gods are real, all myths that don't contradict are true, etc.)
Would you say you have read any of his fantasy books?
If so, Would you say you are inspired by them?
I would say I have read some of his books yes. However I did so after starting the comic. I haven't read much of his stuff until recently.
Is Coyote's creation of the glass-eyed men something of your own devising, or does it come from the myths about him?
No, that's a real Coyote story. But them becoming shadows was my idea.
Do Zimmy's everyday hallucinations (seeing real people with no faces, etc) affect Gamma as well?
Sometimes, but not as much.
Is Mort's name a psychonym, because he's a ghost and the Latin for death is "mortem," or is that just a nice coincidence?
It was intentional, but his real name is Mortimer.
Really, has this relationship had any real downsides for Smitty?
There have been a few embarassing moments, but even those turned out good.
what is your job in real life (that is not the comic)
I go to an office and take part in terrible office culture
Is robot in any real danger? I mean, as long as his CPU isn't damaged, everything should be fine, right? It seems to me that Shadow 2 is the only one who really needs urgent care right now.
Robot's body is just messed up. His cpu is fine
A friend of mine and I cannot agree on something about the comic's setting, and we were hoping you could clear it up. Is the world outside the Court post-apocalyptic, or like the real world at this time?
It's just the normal world outside of the Court
A friend of mine and I disagree on the state of the world outside the Court. He thinks that it's a post-apocalyptic world of sorts, while I think it's much like the real world as it is now. Could you please clear that up for us?
Nah it's just the normal world we live in outside of the court
Regarding the latest comic: Does Renard being inside a doll body mean he doesn't generate saliva? For that matter, does he not get hungry since it's not a real body?
He doesn't generate saliva, no, and he doesn't need to eat.
This question might be too general, but what is your favorite thing about Gunnerkrigg Court? (I don't necessarily mean something in the story itself but about "Gunnerkrigg Court" as a project/creation/etc. Does that make sense?)
Mainly that it is my own. And the fact that, even though it's my first real comic, people seem interested in it. I hope that I will be able to finish it (and still have some readers by the end)
You really shouldn't beat yourself up. How many of the people you meet on a day to day basis can honestly claim to have a fanbase? That is an accomplishment, my friend.
People have more important concerns in real life.
I know you don't really have a clear defined villain or anything, but I really hope Coyote doesn't end up being a for real villain. I love him as the lovable trickster :( don't play with my heart strings tom siddell
he's a cool guy
Do you ever think about animating any of those models that you make in zBrush? Do you know how? If you ever did it would be a real pleasure to see robot or someone in motion.
I retopo and animate stuff from zBrush in Max all the time at work. But for personal projects I don't have the time to dedicate to it.
In Ch. 3, when Rey goes for Annie's body, is that for-real what he intended, even knowing her to be Surma's daughter and thus to have Surma's fire-spirit? I guess I have a hard time accepting that he was that much of a jerk-hole.
We shall see
Do you read novels? any pointer or something I should absolutely check out?
Yes I read when I get the time. No real pointers though. Everyone has their own taste, and recommending things on the Internet is not usually a good idea.
What kind of birds are those in the painting in the bonus page after Chapter 13? Are they real?
I cant remember!
If the court is constantly growing, as has been implied, does that not mean that at some point it will encroach on the "real" world?
We shall see
It occured to me that if your characters would ever cross over to the real world, then Zimmy would probably be pretty pissed off at you.
She totally would. I'm not very nice to her.
I have found a few pictures of Chris Hastings and I guess you are right. I wouldn't say VERY handsome however.
Well you're only saying that because you have not met him in real life. Like a beautiful diamond, photos do not do him justice.
Are the Annan Waters in the comic (between the Court and the Forest) the same as the real life river Annan? If not, was the name itself an inspiration?
It's just got the same name. It's not a real river that exists in our world.
Have you ever seen a baby pigeon in real life?
Yes
Do you drink Jager and Monster because of Girl Genius?
Nope, I drink it because it can be ordered at a bar in real life.
What is your favorite part of going to cons?
Meeting people who have read my comic in real life.
If the spiders love Zimmy so much, why do they want to escape from her?
They wanted to be a real boy.
"...people who have their abilities etherically enhanced but with no real etheric ability themselves, like Eglamore." Gee, this kind of things are what make your Formspring page more than worthwhile for us, the readers. Thanks!
ok
Third, when the players are making characters, which character(s) would you suggest we use as sort of template for how far the normal human can take their abilities. ( I was thinking Eglamore, but the super jumping might be a stretch).
Barring ehteric creatures like Renard and Coyote, there are three types of people I suppose. Normal people like Kat, those that are etherically inclined, like Annie, and people who have their abilities etherically enhanced but with no real etheric ability themselves, like Eglamore.
Was Annie's "Fire Spike" real or illusionary like her other fires?
It was basically real
"Do you like cake? well anyway what is your real job?" has probably been the best question you've received thus far. Do you have a favorite question you've been asked?
not really
How hard is it for Gamma to differentiate between the real world and Zimworld? She seems to have a bit of trouble in both Power Station and Spring Heeled 2
It can get confusing sometimes, but normally only when Zimmy is having a major attack
I really like the way your characters seem like people wearing real people's clothes. Did you ever do any kind of research about it?
Sometimes I do if I'm going for a specific look. It also helps to look at a bunch of different clothes because I'm not a clothes designer and its a good way to get ideas
Do you like cake? well anyway what is your real job?
Yes I like cake
tom, i've no idea what you look like in real life or anything, but in all deathly seriousness i have a massive, enduring, completely non-platonic crush on your brain. mainly unrelated: will you ever make it to new york city for an event, do you think?
I was in New York in October for the New York Comic Con
Annie VS the six Bad Machinery kids in schoolyard fights with no magic, one at a time and with time to rest between opponents. Could she win all 6 fights? If not, who would make her eat dirt?
Nah she'd beat em. But mainly because the Bad Machinery kids are more like real life kids, and the Court teaches self defense as standard
I can't help but notice that Rey's tongue has turned pink and that there seems to be some spit or tears flying about. Is that artistic liberty, or did his transformation become more "real" because of his emotions?
It's just how he is
Not sure if someone already sent something in about this but I can see why Zimmy decided to call herself Zimmy because her real name,Zeta means "olive".
I see
I am still fascinated by your hand drawings... What do you use as reference? Hands of real people you can see in real life or photographs? Or nothing at all?
Nothing really, unless I need to do some kind of closeup, then I just look at my own
Why do you have no real pictures of yourself? (Granted, I do greatly enjoy what you DO put up :P). I'm just super curious about your /REAL/ dashing, debonair visage. :)
I don't recommend it.
In the beginning of Spring Heeled, Jack said he was going to the power station in order to find out what happened to him. Was that the real reason as far as he was aware? (The spider seemed to have a different agenda.)
To turn on the power station and draw Zimmy out
You seem to write very deep characters who don't fit into character archetypes... they are very "human" and real. Does that just come naturally to you, or have you practiced the art? Is Gunnerkrigg the first story you have written?
Gunnerkrigg is my first comic. I have no writing training.
Did Annie ever get to spend time outdoors, or go to places with her father outside the hospital, before she came to the Court? I realized that the Court might have been her first experiences in the "real world" and that could have been scary for her...
she had never left the hospital grounds before
Is Jack's T-shirt in the latest page based on a real design?
no, it's just the Kraftwerk Tour De France album cover on a shirt.
Is there something in particular about the real world that the Whitelegs desire? To be away from Jimmy Do you mean Eglamore?
Nope, I meant Zimmy but my phone autocorrected to Jimmy
Why did you decide to make Coyote colorful instead of like a real coyote, the way Ysengrin and Renard (in their given bodies, not the tree-body or plush toy respectively) look like a real wolf/fox?
Because Coyote decides what he wants to look like
Is there something in particular about the real world that the Whitelegs desire?
To be away from Jimmy. Also possibly domination through control
Are there creatures other than the Whitelegs in Zimmy's mind/dark world that attempt to escape into the real world?
I'm sure there are a few that wouldn't mind. The whiteness are pretty feisty about it though
Are any of the more fantastic parts of your comic meant to be allegorical, or purposely seem like real-world issues that people tend to have, or am I just reading too much into it?
I do not know if you are reading too much into it
Have fans' wild speculation ever come close to the real story?
Unknown
Would Reynardine be able to exert greater etheric power if he were in his real body?
Most likely yes
And speaking of Good Hope, does the one in the comic visually resemble the real one?
Probably not, it's just a normal hospital
Is Good Hope hospital (the one in the comic) located in Birmingham? How about the real life Good Hope?
Well, the West Midlands, yeah
Okay, let's rephrase my question; can the glass-eyed people (like shadow 2) move things. Or are they just like shadows in the real world?
They are not like shadows in the real world
Can a shadow move things?
No, in real life, a shadow is not able to move objects.
Why didn't the fake Kat disappear when Annie touched her in "Power Station"?
Cos Annie wanted her to be real
We know that Mort is a playful shapeshifter. Is the appearance that we think of as the "real" Mort NOT his "true" appearance, but in fact just the ghostly appearance that he likes the most / shapeshifts to the most often?
It's his default state
was the court in real danger after the separation from the forest or were they just paranoid about it?
Remains to be seen
"...coddled child of that damned place. This luxury afforded by my death..." Is Jeanne saying that if the waters weren't made impassible by her death, then the Court would be in real trouble?
Her gleaming heart is the luxury afforded by her death.
Would you consider adding a Blinker stone to your merchandise list?
They do not exist in real life
Have there been extraterrestrial visitors to Earth in the Gunnerkrigg 'verse? Did the Roswell, New Mexico event happen?
The Roswell event happened just as it did in real life
Did Annie's mom have a real illness, like cancer, or was she sick because of her powers, whatever they exactly are?
Remains to be seen
What real world location is the Court similar in area to?
Many of the buildings are based on Birmingham city center (this has no bearing on the plot, it's just easy to get reference from the city I work in)
If not for Ysengrin's wooden body, would his real one be stronger and have fur?
most likely
If the characters were real people, which do you think you would be friends with?
Kat, maybe
When someone is able to see the ether without a blinker stone, how much can they see? Only what is near them? Everything, like Coyote? Could they see things hidden from them in the real world, like items in a box or in another room?
Depends on the person.
I know that, technically, everything you do moves you toward a goal, but do you feel that making a living out of your comic has become a real possibilty by now?
no
Have you ever known anyone like Parley in real life?
Kinda yeah
When Annie's projecting herself, can she still hear what's going on around her real body (like she can still talk through it)?
Not really
Can the real world and the ether get a little mixed up in the Woods?
Yes
If you are in ether and your real body is punched, would you then snap back to it?
Depends how good you are at being separate from your ody. You'd certainly feel it.
In a world where native religious figures are actually observable (e.g. Coyote), do major religious groups have a harder time pressing conversions of indigenous peoples? Does conversion equate to new beliefs in terms of what's real--or what's -respected-?
nah
Do you consider the world of Gunnerkrigg Court more or less real than this physical reality or about equal?
it is a comic
Do things appear in Zimmy's nightmares that reflect real things she hasn't encountered yet?
Soemtimes
Did you make up the term psychopomp or is that some real thing in mythology?
It's a real thing
Does the robot king have real authority?
In some areas
What are the rules for etheric beings in the court? With Mort and Ms. Sutton, they're welcome in their real bodies, unlike the woods with humans. Yet Red and Blue had to reincarnate to join? Is there a reasoning there?
yup
Who's in those real life paper pictures you made for the con?
So far: 2 of Annie, 2 of Kat, 2 of Renard (wolf and plush) 2 of Zimmy (one with Gamma) and Robot King
The Nobodies. Are they the various people Zimmy looked at (in Real Life) and if they didn't have any Etheric leanings they became the faceless nobodies in her world?
Nope
Did Red and Blue have real fairy names? Did they keep them as humans or did they change get new ones after they changed?
No they didn't have names
Have you ever used a Ouija board?
Not a real one no. I had a friend who was obsessed with them though.
Did the whitelegs have a plan for what to do if it did manage to get total control of Jack?
Get up to stuff in the real world, perhaps
Your characters are very well thought out, from back stories to things that aren't integral but flesh out their character.Do you sit down and write out everything that comes to mind about a character? Or do these things just build on themselves over time?
No I just build them up in my head over time. I just see them as real people who get up to stuff that isn't always shown in the strip.
Does Antimony's name relate to both the element of the periodic table and the term relating to logic (that is, Antimony literally means the mutual incompatibility, real or apparent, of two laws)?
You're thinking of antinomy.
It's not necessarily that you're terrible at business. We just think your comic is really good, and in our minds that means you should get paid heaps of money for doing it. As usual, the real world and the ideal world fail to intersect.
Yes that is my experience also.
Are there any accents you find downright annoying? Real ones, not overdone fake ones, mind you.
yes
The lake doesn't look nearly drained enough for the rain to have just started. Does that mean the rain is real?
It doesnt drain that much
This chapter keeps getting more and more amazing. You really have a knack for getting people invested in the work even when they have no real clue what's going on, as particularly evident in the last page (which was awesome). Is Zimmy smiling at jack?
Tell that to the people in the forum.
If the false!Kat in Zimmingham was a memory of the real Kat (hence the shorter hair), and if the memories are lost when they're GOPPed, does that mean Annie actually lost that memory of her friend? Is that why she looked so horrified, besides the obvious?
Nope
Do you ever wish you knew more people in real life who read your comic?
Sometimes yeah
Was your decision to include various myths in the Gunnerkrigg universe as real entities the characters encounter influenced by Hellboy?
Not really no
So why IS real Kat's hair longer than fake spirit Kat's?
It was a memory of Kat, and she had shorter hair back then.
In the current page (733), what's the building both Jacks go into? I mean in real life.
The building near the Iron: Man statue is the recently renovated town hall.
RE:Genie train: Real. Living or dead.
I can't think of anyone I would especially want to meet.
A genie train appears at your door step and offers you a free ride to meet one person of your choice. Who?
Living or dead, real or imagined?
Tom how will I recognize you at the Archaia booth at SDCC if you don't look like your drawing in real life? D:
I'm assuming there will be a sign or a lable mentioning who I am. I will also be the guy selling the Gunnerkrigg books.
Dear Tom, Are you the same in real life as you appear on the internet?
Unfortuantely I am not a drawing in real life.
Dear Tom,
Are you the same in real life as you appear on the internet?
Unfortunately I am not a drawing in real life.

Dear Tom, Are you the same in real life as you appear on the internet?
Unfortunately I am not a drawing in real life.
Is Zimmingham a metaphor/representation of the Internet? Lots of faceless people who aren't real, scary creatures, decaying structures (sites)?
Nope.
Did Annie grow up in the real Good Hope Hospital in Birmingham, or just one based on it?
It's just a comic
I just got the awesome Vol-2. I have some questions about that crispy boy that Annie helped cross over. How real was the fire? Is the fact that it didn't burn Annie a clue about her nature? (BTW, It may be time to repost the formspring link)
it was all an illusion made from the boy's fears
Have you ever met someone who didn't like your comic after reading, say, at least five chapters? (in real life not on the internet)
Yes.
Have you ever met someone who didn't like your comic after reading, say, at least five chapters? (in real life not on the internet)
Yes.
Have you ever met someone who didn't like your comic after reading, say, at least five chapters? (in real life not on the internet)
Yes.
If the spider from Zimmy's world could follow Jack into the real world, does that mean that Zimmy's hallucinations can come to life, or at the least leak through into the real world?
Yup.
So... does "don't ask about Reynardine's body swapping powers" mean that it is important? Like maybe it has something to do with Annie's "father" being gone? P.S. I don't expect a real answer to this question, you can delete it if you want, I won't mind.
I don't even know how you can connect those two things. I just hate answering every little nitpicking question about all the possible combinations of some made up power in a comic could possibly work.
Did Zimmy suspect that the Kat in her nightmare world wasn't the real one?
No, she didn't care that much about it.
I missed the pre-order for the second book. Will we be able to buy it from the store?
There was no pre-order. You should be able to get it in all the usual places on-line and in real life.
Who would win in a fight, a real parrot, or one of the robo birds?
The Tic Toc.
Do you purposely try to appear mysterious? Like, is that a persona, or do you really speak in short, engimatic sentences in real life?
I don't tend to say more than is necessary, if that's what you mean.
When you responded about gay characters and used the word "fucking" it was something of a shock to me. Do you swear more in real life than on the internet?
Yes I do. But I only use swears to emphasise something.
Has anyone ever recognized you in real life (by your name if not your appearance) and gotten really excited?
No.
Is there anything specific that you're really looking forward to?
In the comic, lots of stuff. In real life, no.
Would Reynardine's wolfshape toybody have offered any real protection to Antimony against Ysengrin's attack if Mr.Donlan hadn't put up the shields?
Not really, but he would have at least tried hardening his body with the metal inside him.
Does Annie's new tooth sword actually turn into a sword, or is it an illusion?
It becomes a real sword.
Has Annie already told Reynardine about his real body in the woods?
She mentioned it, yeah.
Shell is... a girl? I can have a hard time with this in real life, as well.
She is a female, yes.
We are related in that casual way families from old european towns are all blood relatives. I'm even a Annie/Rey shipper so you have a good reason to dislike me (Just like with real extended family!). I just want to say that I love your comic.
Thank you.
Books describing UK house system schools feature a good deal of rivalry, stereotyping and animosity between houses. I noticed this in GC as well, do you know if this true in real life? did you study in a house school yourself? what's it like?
It's sort of set up that way and rivalry is encouraged. I was in Queslett when I was in school. Students from different houses don't really mingle much.
If your characters were real people, which of them would you most like to befriend?
Probably Kat. Or Jones.
What was Surma sick of? Was it something natural (i.e. Diseases, things that exist in real life) or something etheric?
That remains to be seen.
do you ever picture your characters as real people? could you see Gunnerkrigg Court as a live-action movie?
I picture them as real people all the time. They still look like cartoons though, which is probably not what you're asking.<br /> I could imagine it as a live action movie, yeah, though I would prefer it as an animtion.
if the Court were a real place, would you want to go/live there?
Yeah sure.
Which is superior: Magic or Science?
Only science exists in real life, so I guess that wins by default.
What does the Eugene Gould Psychic Challenge consist of? Did you make it up or is it a real thing?
It's basically the same as the James Randi paranormal challenge.
how would someone from the internet go about asking you out for lunch?
They would first have to be a real person.
Last February you said you saw a girl with Kat's future hairstyle, did you give Kat the hairstyle because of the girl or had you already decided and that was a chance to see it in real life? Is it the style she had in Ch. 24 or 25 or has it been seen yet?
I had the idea for the hairstyle before seeing the girl. Kat doesn't have it yet though.
Is there a real Jolly Elfsberry in the forest or was he completely made up by Coyote?
Coyote made him up. He thought to himself "I'd like to make a body that appeared to be a jolly elf!"
Are any GC characters based on real people? If so, which characters?
Not really, no.
How do you feel about Birmingham as a city and as a place to live? Is Zimmy's nightmare Birmingham meant as a metaphor for your view of the real one?
I do not like it here very much.
If you could spend a pleasant afternoon with a real-life incarnation of one of your characters, who would you choose?
Jones.
When shit gets real, will your characters pose as a team?
I enjoy MS Paint Adventures too, yes.
Do the forest transfers have much career/living potential outside in the real world? I heard fairies are the best quantity surveyors.
That remains to be seen.
Your characters often display a degree of emotional maturity that one would not expect in real life. How do you reconcile the balance between keeping Gunnerkrigg interesting and keeping it realistic?
Sometimes realism jsut isn't interesting. My comic is not a social study about real life behaviour in kids.
While I hope it remains an uncertainty for the longest possible time, who do you think your psychopomp will be? Or would be, if you do not expect such useful company in the real world.
It'd probably be some Catholic guy I never heard of.
I worry sometimes that you seem to be getting burned out with your schedule. As much as I like the 3-a-week updates, have you considered fewer updates or a lengthy hiatus to give yourself a break?
I wouldn't like to do a hiatus, as that is a surefire way to kill a webcomic. Dropping down to only two pages a week would be a real shame too. I get enough complaints that my comic moves too slowly.
Any idea why so many people (or: one person posting over and over again) want a hug from you?
Probably because they haven't met me in real life.
Which human character would be more miserable in a real world (One with no super-science or magic), even with the same human acquantainces and friendships?
Most likely Annie.
Sorry if this has been asked or if you don't want to answer. Approximately how many more pages do we have left/ how much real world time do you think it will take to get to the end?
I don't know how long it will take to get to the end of the comic.
do you enjoy interacting with people on the internet? do you find it very different from how you interact with people in meat-space? do you like to meet people you interact with online or is it more a case of never the twain shall meet?
I do enjoy interacting with people online, and used to do it all the time when I was younger. I don't really do it much anymore though. I tend to keep my messengers off now and feel like I don't have the time to straight up chat anymore. Just like real life, I am not very good at meeting new people for the first time, especially if I'm the one trying to start the conversation.
If Gunnerkrigg Court was a real school, would it be somewhere you would have like to have gone to?
Yeah it would have been pretty cool.
Do you/did you have much experience with dogs? I ask because you seem to portray Ys/Coyote interactions in a way that reflects how real dogs interact socially. Yet another reason why I enjoy your comic so much!
I love dogs. I used to have two dogs when I lived with my family. My dad has three staffies.
Would you love me if I weren't from the internet?
It depends on what you were like in real life and your ability to stand me for longer than a week or so.
When a human becomes an inhabitant of Gillitie Wood like Ally did, is there a chance that he/she will retain sentience, or will he/she definitely become a non-sentient being? If sentience is retained, will memories also be retained?
The transition to animal form is complete, but then animals in the comic are not exactly the same as animals in real life.
Would you be against someone making a "Merchandise Ideas/Popularity Check" thread on your forums? Then you could have them come up with ideas for you, and get a sense for which might be worth to sell.
I don't think that would be very helpful. forum goers might be enthusiastic about theoretical merchandise, but that wouldn't translate over to real life sales. Also if someone thinks up an interesting idea I went with, I could get into trouble for stealing someone's idea.
Have you made any real major changes in the story of GC since you started it? Divergences from your original planned story, I mean.
A few changes here and there, but it has largely worked out as I intended.
Would you grace me with a hug? Or a hard drink.
In real life, yes.
Are any of the characters based on you or someone you know in real life?
Yes.
If you could have a crossover between GC and anything in the world, what would you choose? Video game characters? Other webcomics? The Bourne movies?
GC and real life you would be pretty cool, but also very sad.
I figured out that you like robots, but how does that all jive with what seems to be the great pleasure you take in drawing antique-looking dresses and other clothes, like your series of GC characters in ball gowns. Does the future have old clothes?
I have no idea what clothes the future has. But I do like big dresses. Like robots, they are something I will never see in real life.
If the characters in your comic were real, and you met them, how would you react?
I would hope they were having a nice time.
